One important factor Mossberg’s personal technology column on PubSub and Rollyo missed is relevancy of the search results. I agree with Mossberg on Rollyo , as Rollyo is based on Yahoo search web service it will always give relevant result as we search on only selected websites.
To create a searchroll, you go to the Rollyo site (rollyo.com) and specify as many as 25 sites that you believe are the most relevant on any given topic.
For pubsub, relevancy of the result is more important to the user.Last month I created a search subscription in pubsub for terms/keywords like “SOA” and “Podcast Player”. The results on “SOA” was really bad, click on the image below to see the sample results.
, is that a result from a spanish blog?. Search subscription on “Podcast Player” had revelant results,I think it got mixed another search subscription keyword “Service” may be a bug in the pubsub subscription system.Try searching “SOA” in google blog search and yahoo search some of the results are revelant to me. I understand that pubsub is a startup ,still growing and improving the products. Pubsub Team below is the list of recommendations, hope pubsub’s development team has a search subscription in it’s own tool. If you see this post and if I’m wrong, correct me.
1.Ask your users to rate the results.
2.Build your system to learn from the ratings.
3.Listen to your users,provide a feedback form.
Hope these 3 things will help pubsub. One interesting tool they have is SiteStats.
